The Wreath

Winter is almost here and now is the perfect time to appreciate the amazing fragrance that evergreens provide us with. Whether you are decorating for the holidays or for the winter, the wreath is a lovely way to celebrate the season.

Here at Linden Grove,  we use a multitude of pods, cones and ribbons (our favorites are grosgrain and dupioni silk)!   We usually start with a simple base of boxwood or noble fir and add more evergreens, along with bobbles, cones, ribbons, wire and mosses.

The nice thing about wreaths is that they add some colour and life to your door or wall for a couple of months.   Most evergreen wreaths will be happier outside,  but there are some really gorgeous wreaths that would actually be happier inside,  like seeded eucalyptus, magnolia and bay laurel (special orders only).  Boxwood wreaths are a great option too as the boxwood dries perfectly and will retain its colour for quite some time.   Branch wreaths are also fabulous and will transition into spring nicely.

Wreaths are quite labour intensive,  so always allow a few days to a week if you do plan to order a customized one that suits your home and personality.

If you do plan on having a wreath indoors,  the further away from a heat source the longer the life of your wreath. If you would like to decorate above a mantle,  perhaps branches or a more decorated wreath is the way to go.

At the end of the day,  nothing can beat the glorious fragrance that you get from evergreens and what a nice greeting to have when you come home after a hard day’s work.

A fun wreath of chartreuse green and chestnut brown tones.
This gorgeous wreath has okra pods and bobbles.
Cinnamon sticks and stunning grosgrain ribbon.

Who says a wreath should be round. Beautiful shapes like square, rectangular and oval are also great options.

Dupioni silk ribbon…..yes please.
