Creating texture with foliage.

Cotinus Leaf

At Linden Grove Flowers in Toronto,  we have always loved using various berries, foliage and pods in our floral arrangements.

They add so much texture and interest to our designs.  Each variety look amazing on their own or mixed together, and are simple and long lasting.

There are so many types of foliage to choose from and like flowers,  some are around for a short period of time and are at their peak during specific months.

Right now,  we are enjoying the Cotinus (smokebush) with its rich purple leaf with a stunning subtle red vein.

One of our favorite types of greenery to use, is the absolutely gorgeous magnolia branches.  We tend to use the magnolia tip but we can also get the larger branches which can be seven feet in height.  The top of the leaves are glossy and rich green, with an underside that is a decadent velvety caramel tone.

Exotic foliage, like various types of palm leaves or monstera leaves make a statement all on their own and having one or two stems in a lovely contemporary vase looks fantastic and adds that extra touch to any room.

Berries are a great accent to many arrangements and again, some are seasonally available like snowberries and skimmia, while others like hypericum berries are available the whole year, although the colour selection may vary.

Here are some photos of various types of greenery, pods, and berries along with some designs comprising of a variety of these elements together and some with just the one type!
