A walk after work and before sunset is an activity we relish at this time of year, early spring. After a day at Linden Grove Flowers spent surrounded by the most glorious blooms we long for a breath of bracing air and a stroll through our neighbourhoods to witness the tiny harbingers of spring: Snowdrops, Croci, Narcissi, Tulips and Scilla Campanulata. A quick jaunt before dinner has us searching for the verdant shoots in parks and neighbouring gardens, alas it is a bit early…it’s coming…
The trees in the neighbourhood are readying themselves for spring displays. The buds of the magnolia trees and the rhododendron bushes are swelling weekly and the blossom buds of the service berry in my own garden looks ready to pop, although this is just a tease…it’s still weeks away from blooming. The long graceful branches of the weeping willows are brighter with yellow tinges, the dogwood shrubs are reddening up and soon that green haze that seems to circulate around the fruit trees will enliven all of our senses.
If you feel a sense of urgency for spring right now there is a great full-blown colour spring extravaganza may be had at Allan Gardens; step in out of the chill and breathe in the scents of spring in their many glasshouses.
Here at the shop we are spoiled by the many early spring flowers we bring in on a weekly basis. Spring flowers appear on our grower’s lists shortly after New Years Day, and we have had the pleasure of working with all varieties of tulips, hyacinths, anemones, muscari and ranunculi for months now. The fragrance wafting from the grape hyacinths, muscari, is just so lovely…intoxicating.
As mentioned in our previous blog our shipment of Kwanzan Cherry has arrived and we are beyond excited to work it.
